Lottery Age & Location Restrictions: What Online Players Need to Check

Age and location restrictions are not universal. They can come from the selling lottery, the customer's jurisdiction and the online service used to place an order.

Important: Lottery availability, age requirements and online-purchase rules vary by jurisdiction. This page is general information, not legal or tax advice.

Minimum age varies

Different lotteries and jurisdictions set their own minimum participation ages. Do not copy an age requirement from one lottery and assume it applies everywhere.

Physical presence can matter

Official online lottery sales often use location rules. Mega Millions, for example, says users of participating jurisdiction online programs must be physically within the relevant borders when purchasing.

Citizenship is a separate question

Powerball says a person does not have to be a US citizen or resident to buy a ticket while visiting a selling jurisdiction, provided they meet the local legal-age requirement.

Courier terms add another layer

A courier may accept customers only from selected locations or may exclude particular games by jurisdiction. Read its eligibility section before depositing.

Do not bypass geolocation

Using a VPN, false address or someone else's identity to evade restrictions can create account, payment and prize-claim problems.
